It is my previlage and honour to send my best wishes on the occasion of the release of the OPTSA souvenir in Occupational and Physiotherapy 2011.
I am extremely Delighted to see the encourage, conviction and enthusiasm in the gesture from students which will go a long way in taking this field forwards. Occupational and Physiotherapy over the years has taken shape and structure and has contributed enormously in transforming lives of people in different walks of life. People who are physically challenged, children with special needs are a few facets where these interventions have been instrumental in opening new avenues in health care.
Occupational and Physiotherapy has brought in enormous scope for innovation and space for improvising appropriate stragies to modify the enviroment to achieve specfic Goals and improve the Quality of Life.
I congratulate all the student who have worked tirelessly towards this task and i wish the venture a grat success.

A deep sense of Appreciation Gratitude and Joy surge through my heart as i greet you through this souvenir as OPTSA is celebrating its 25th Anniversary twinning with OPTA Alumni Re-union.

Having sucessfully crossed the various hurdles encountered on the way of its grown, OPTSA has grown in stature and strength today has become one of the finest association dedicated to the Pursuit of excellence in curricular and exreacurricular activities.
Our Last ambition as the bible says in 1 corithians 10 : 31, "Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all the Glory of God"
My sincere and God's best wishes for all proceedings of the day.

Incharge Physiotherapy unit
25 years have passed away; and each of us has witnessed some phase of formation or development of OPTSA. She have been growing ever since, in us and through is. It is indeed gratifying to find that years have passed by, and we had been enabled by the Almighty to stand together hand in hand as an association to work towards common goal.
OPTSA which stand for 'Occupational and Physiotherapy Students Association' took a definat shape in the year 1986. At this momentous occasion of her silver jubilee we recall with gratitude all those alumni of ours who worked selflessly with forefight in those formative days. Looking forward I'm confident in saying that she has much greater heights to achieve in the coming years.
The goal of education is the comprehensive development of a man's personality, to make him competent in all realms of life. To Ensure this various programs are organized by elected secretaries in the areas of entertainment, literature and curriculum, religious and sports activities. Not only do we include students and staff, but also "the differently able"people in our rehab institute, CP home etc. in this way we make sure that we are not only just treating patients but a from wider view points addressing the person as a whole living up to our institution vision 'to care for the poor and marginalized'. In association with the blood donation camp on a regular basis to promote awareness among the students and the community.
I take this opportunity to thank all the office bearers, OPTSAites, Staff and Alumni who are a never ending source of inspiration and support. In Today's world where the modern mans has no time to spare or heart to care for ailing brother and his sick nieghbour; it gives me immense pleasure to say that we could feel a strong sense of solidarity, of love and of brotherhood making us stronger men and women and from a wider perpective,knitting us to a framework of a community we otherwise would have not been.
Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little: More than amchinery we need humanity; mare than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness.
To my dear fellow OPTSAites; 'It has beeb said "our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." Never forget the hurdles you overcame to get here. For those that lie ahead, meet them in vigour and a commitment to chracter and integrity.. To a bright today and a brighter tomorrow... Hail OPTSA....
Silver to Gold...
Robert collier, famous author of 20th century, once said, " Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated in and day out". This quote effectively sums up the activities of the staff and students over the past few months, making preparations for the 25th anniversary of OPTSA. This is momentous occasion for us, when we are looking back at glorious years and also looking forward to many more years of learning, companionship and service. And hence the theme. Silver to Gold, Representing and connecting the past with future.
The editorial committee is proud to be a part of this historic occasion and grateful for the opportunity to be called upon to offer our services to the organization which has been our identity. The Staff and Students who spend countless hours for sponsors deserve special apperciation. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who gave in articles and advertisements.
To sum it up, we have had great fun in trying to get this souvenir out. Let us continue to work together to take OPTSA to soaring heights.

Qatar OT Experience
Hamad Medical corporation is the largest healthcare provider in the state of the Qatar and comprises of 5 other speciality Hospitals which include Hamad General Hospital, Rumailah Hospital, Al Amal Hospital, Al Khor Hospital and Women's Hospital. Recently there have been upcoming projects of which Heart Hospital Has Begun. The Occupational Therapy Department is a part of Rumailiah Hosptial and we have extended services to the various hospitals as well as have developed Speciality areas. They include Adult Rehabilitation, Hand Therapy, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Community Based rehabilitation and Long term care facilities. We are grateful for the opportunity given to us to share our experiences here and feel honoured in sharing the joy of celebrating OPTSA Silver jubilee. The contrast between the simple life in Vellore and the life in Doha city was to start that sometimes we can do through periods of sadness and a longing for a life we had at CMC. Our department provides an open working environment and gives us adequate freedom to intitate, explore and implement new programs. With all added responsibilites we also understand that even in this Muslim country it is possible to serve our patients in the spirit of christ and to the glory of God..... the seeds that have been planted in our hearts in the early days of our OT course and the very essence of CMCH. Time has flown by and with all the opportunities we have had here at Hamad Medical Corporation, we have experinced God's hand in our lives. We are so thankful for the education we received and for OPTSA which made students life so exciting. Some of us were fortunate to be a part of the Batches who were involved with the creation of OPTSA which has survived so many ups and downs and has emerged strong despite every thing. We hope OPTSA will continue to offer opportunities for OT's and PT's to work together more, and lay the foundation of the Future interdisciplinary work.
" The OPTSA Alumni in Qatar celebrate this occasion of delight
We join together to wish you sucess and feel the pride,
Carrying the spirit of CMC instilled in our Heart
Has encouraged our life's experiences this far....
The Year have passed through of so fast,
The vision and strength of lessons learnt in the past
The life back home and in Qatar through different n vast,
Still meaningful and provides us with little achievements to lasts
We thank God together for journey you are going through...
With OPTSA reaching another milestone and exploring things anew
Through obstacles and barriers may come your way
The strength through it all will surely make your day "
"Time is not measured by the passing of the years but by what ones does, what one feels and what one achieves".... Wherever you may go in this life of yours, remember always to give it your best. JUST BELIEVE !! Charles Aruputharaj Joshua 2005 PT
As i sank into a waterlogged abyss;
The horizon was bleak; No sight of land;
My mind wavered as tranquil thoughts were amiss.
Savage waves overpowered my strokes,
Engulfing me, as i tried to stay afloat;
Frenetic, I Screamed for help from my folks
while helplessly they looked on, from the battered boat.
The Frenzy wind make me shudder to my bones,
As my soul hope and my voice mellowed;
My friends cries were now distant drones,
As, into a ferocious depth, i was being swallowed.
On troubled waters, when i'd set forth my feet,
To walk through the immense faith I'd mustered;
But when faced with fear and waves of defeat,
In HIM, I'd never wholly trusted
Through the murderous waves, HE reached out his hand
And held me firm, yet with utmost care;
To storm, "BE STILL" was HIS only command
And to ever qualm his promises again, i'll never dare!
His countenance mirrored sorrow as shameful tears i fought;
By doubting HIS call, i'd made HIM grieve;
Mouthful of Praise, from me, he never sought,

Don't take life too seriously,
You'll never get out of it, I say sincerely.
Just do the best you can,
And let the event follow thier own plan
Know all things are transitory-
What's good, what's bad, you never know,
Like passing clouds in the sky,
They come and go - nay fly.
Just Do your part,
And Enjoy every bit of what you have got,
Be alive to the present,
And use your talent,
The past, the future,
Belong to the world of thought,
Every Goal you set is but,
An illusion which is seldom caught,
But if by power of will you capture,
There are often goals that create rapture,
No achievements can fulfill your dream,
The Truth alone can set you free- I Scream,
So spend all your walking time,
To make the changelling climb.
Search within and you shall find,
The ultimate secret of all mankind.

More than i crave for riches, treasure far and wide,
More than i need luxury, I need you by my side.
More than recognition, reverence and respect
More than admiration, your friendship i select.
More than i need shelter, and a cozy place to stay,
More than Warmth or safety, I need you in my day,
More than peaceful slumber, euphoria or bliss,
More than calm serenity, I delight in your kiss.
More than anything on earth, the realm of all sublime,
More than all these thing i've named
I need you all the time.
My lord, I need thee, Thou art great among all.
It eludes me whether it was the providing of all health services free of cost to the sick and dying poor, or it were the numerous human right awards conferred upon him(conferred under his name meaning"award named after him given to others"), that brought him to conviction for sedition by the state government of chhattisgarh. But the protest that followed and flooded the media and social networking sites explicitly conveyed peoples' resentment towards this mockery of justice.
Dr. Binayak Sen, an alumnus, is how CMC knows him. But if you ask the tribal community in south bastar, It shouldn't suprise you to find them refer to the saviour. To them he is the one man who raised the voice against the enroachment of thier land. His resilent effort to weed the trenches off illegal mine workers cannot be paralleled. Among his many feats, the one that surpass them all os Shahedd Hospital, now 100-bedded but once a gargage health care centre run by mine workers and thier families having no medical educational background.
"Hysteric with rage" is a euphemism when it comes to describing people's reaction, including my own, to the life of imprisonment sentence he was served in December last year. But what really left me in sheer incredulity was his response, a few month later, to his indictment. He spoke in the same gentle voice as if heaven's peace had touched his life, and i failed as i searched for any signs of perturbation across his face.
Evidently, the only issue bothering him while the cases for his life still awaits a decision is to provide justice to the many innocent behind bars, for whom the streets don't swarm with protests.
Having been offered a choice between comfort, luxury and repute on the one hand and a life of struggle for what is right on the other, he chose the latter. The said decision took him from being the 'noisy student' in medical school, talking about no one cared to take heed of, to becoming the prisoner of conscience.
THIS IS A TRUE ESSAY WRITTEN BY A BIHAR CANDIDATE AT THE UPSC(IAS) EXAMINATIONS. Candidate has written an essay on the indian cow
YOU WILL FORGET YOUR ENGLISH BY THE TIME U FINISH READING THIS.
HE IS THE COW "The cow is sucessful animal. Also he is 4 footed. And because he is female, he gives milks [ but will do so when he is got child]. He is same like God, sacred to the Hindus and useful to man.
But he has got four legs together. Two are forward and two afterwards.
His whole body can be utilized for use. More so the milk. Milk comes from 4 taps attached to his basement. [ horses dont have any such attachement ]
What can it do? Various butter, cream, curd, why and the condensed milk and so forth. Also he is useful to tje cobbler, watermans and mankind generally.
His motion is slow only because he is of lazy species. Also his other motion.....[from the backyard] is much useful to the trees, plants as well as for making flat cakes [like pizza], in hand and dying in the sun.
Cow is the only animal that extricates his feeding after eating. Then afterwards she chews with his teeth whom are situated in the inside of the mouth. He is incessantly in the meadows in the grass.
His only attacking and defending organs is the horns, specially so when is got child. This done by knowing his head whereby he causes the weapons to be paralleled to the ground of the earth and instantly proceed with great velocity forwards.
He has go tails also. Situated in the backyard but not like smilar animals. It has hairs on the other on the other end of the other side. This is done to frighten away the flies which alight on his cohesive body here upon he gives hit with it. The Palms of his feet are soft unto touch.
So the grasses head is not crushed. At night time have poses by looking down the ground and he shouts. His eyes and nose are like others relatives.
This is the cow...
We are informed that the candidate passed the exam and is now an IAS, in bihar somewhere...sorry somewhere in bihar.

(WO)MEN AND THEIR GADGETS
I had been planing to learn driving from the day i turned 18. But then I fell in love with a guy who had an Enfield Machismo and there didn't seem to be any point in learning when I could be dropped anywhere I wanted. So the Years went by. The desire would surface now and then, but the time just didn't seem right.
And the THE CAR came into our lives. My husband bought it within days of us finding out that we were going to have a baby. It was actually a used car with quite a lot of scratches and repairs to be done. We had it repaired and choose to paint it midnight blue. And my desire to learn to drive resurfaced. I joined a driving school

Soon after my son was born, I reasiled that children are smarter than we give them credits for. That is when I started keeping track of quirky behaviour which were more or less universal babies. I call it "The International Union of Babies- Code of Conduct " and have written up in the chronological order as I learnt them.
1. "Drench at least one parent with any/all bodily secretions everyday"
2. "Always keep momma busy washing n feeding n changing. She needs it physically to lose all the excess fat accumulated during pregnancy and psychologically to develop frustration tolerance in order to deal with you in the following years"
3. "If dadda's snoring is keeping you awake at night, just start screaming every time he manages to fall asleep. Where is the question of snoring when he can't get to sleep in the first place? !!"
4. "If you every feel sorry for the parents about you are putting them through, remember the circle of Life- they did it to their parents long before any of us ever ame along!"
5. "How to distinguish between a parent and a pillow lying next to you: Ram against it a few times.... If you get a touch or sound as a response, go back to sleep; if not, start screaming..."
6. " When you hear strange rumbling noises inside your tummy- you may know mamma has been naughty again, hogging on french fries n potato chips!!!"
7. "Always offer up at least a quarter of the milk you have been fed as a thanks offering to the Gods."
8. "Parents have a desperate need to be in control. The trick is to have your way while making them believe it was their idea all along..."
9. "The amount you throw up on dada's shirt should be directly proportional to its price and inversely propotional to the time he has change it before rushing it off to work..."
10. "All babies need someone to spoil them rotten; that's why God created grandparents"
11. "Stuffing both fists into the mouth at the same time is a feat all babies should aspire towards, but only the smartest achieve....."
12. "The best time to throw up is immediately after you have been freshly bathed powered and dressed..."
13. "When you are hungry, cry; when you are wet, cry; when you are sleepy, cry; when you are in pain, cry. Even if you are prefectly fine but feel like crying; cry. Let the parents figure out why...."
14. "Mamas and Dadas adapt differntly to you crying in the middle of the night- Mamas will learn to wake up at the slightest whimper; Dadas will learn to sleep through the loudest rackets..."
15. "Mamas have a longer hair than Dadas so that we can Pull out the Handful of it while Playing..."
16. "Anything that your hands can reach is to be immediately taken to the mouth and tasted..."
17. "When you are sick and Mama tries to get you to eat something new, spit it out the first few times before finally eating it..."
18. "Whenever Mama tries to get you to eat something new, spit it out the first few times before finally eating it.."
19. "When you have a sucessfully mastered rule no 11, start striving for the same with your feet...."
20. "The best way to increase your grip strength is by getting hold of any exposed areas of your mama's skin and squeezing as hard as you can. The increase in strength will be directly propotional to the intensity of her scream as well as the number of repetitions per minute.
21. "Six days a week, you rest. On the seventh day, be up and playing long before the sun rises in order to make the most of the only day when you have your parents all to yourself...."
22. "Mamas will have a compulsive urge to kiss you whenever they get near you. It can be little irritating, but don't worry; they will gradually outgrow it as get older...."
23. "Whenever Mama eats some grownup-food that looks n smells delcious, keep looking at her unblinkingly; smack and suck your lips and drool as much as possible till she finally feels sorry and lets you taste it..."
24. "Saliva is important body fluid: don't waste it by passive drooling, but use it to forcefully and spontaneously spit or spray on other's face...."
